I’m more excited about 2016 than any other year. I’m not sure why, but I can feel in my bones that it’s going to be a good year. I’ve never had this vibe before, so I have high hopes for the year ahead.
I’m not one to believe all my resolutions will come true, but I am one to get motivated by a fresh calendar of possibility. Sure, we can have a fresh start in our lives whenever the heck we want to. But there’s something about a new year that makes me feel empowered and ready for a new chapter. It’ll probably look at lot like 2015, but there’s so much potential and a lot to look forward to.
Here’s five reasons why I believe 2016 will be a great year for us.
New Year, New Me
We all hear a lot of “new year, new me” mumbo jumbo towards the beginning of the new year. The idea that we’re going to be completely different in the next year is a little ambitious. We’re probably going to be a lot of the same. We’re probably not going to accomplish all our goals if we don’t get specific or want them enough. We might change our look, but we’re probably going to act and do a lot of the same things. But, we can work on the things that we really need to change. Here’s the thing: we have to really want it.
New Year, Same Me
On that same note, we should remember how awesome we are right now. We’ve got so much potential, it can scare us sometimes. We don’t need to be different in 2016. We can be better versions of who we already are. We can have a better haircut, a more productive work ethic, and a healthier body. But it’s still our hair, our work ethic, our body. It’s all our own potential. And even if we don’t end up adding up to what we hope to be in the next year, we’re living and learning.
New Year, New Opportunities
With each year comes new opportunities. We’re living in a world with infinite possibilities. When one door shuts, a thousand more open. It’s nice to think of the world like this and to remind ourselves that we’re not trapped in offices and we can determine our future if we want to. Maybe we’ve shut some doors or maybe they’ve been shut for us, but don’t let that prevent you from feeling like you’ve got choices in your life. The way you live your life is your choice. Don’t give up that right. Allow these opportunities into your life. Embrace them, because they are there.
New Year, New Challenges
Life is so uncertain and it’s inevitable that bad days will come. We’ll be faced with tragic moments in our lifetime and we’ll have to get ourselves through it. Sometimes it will feel impossible. Sometimes it will be all-consuming.
But there are also big challenges that create growth.
Challenging myself terrifies me, because I typically like being safe. It’s comforting. When I’m being real with myself, I know that those scary moments are what matters. They’re the life-changing, epic movie moments of our lives. They’re important and they determine who we are. Keep pushing yourself to accept more challenges. Push yourself to live more epically.
New Year, New Perspectives
By enriching ourselves in new classes, watching documentaries, traveling and exploring, our perspective changes over time. Our new experiences warp our minds in a beautiful way. We’re constantly learning, working, and adapting. It’s invigorating to think about how far we’ve come and how far we can continue to grow each year. If we continue to keep our minds open, there’s no limit to how much we can improve. We can become the people who we want to be in the long run with an open mind and an open heart.
Let’s go into 2016 with optimism and excitement for what our future brings. Even though we don’t know what it’ll bring, let’s believe it’ll be a great one.
